Useful apps for Uzbekistan: taxis, maps, trains, delivery, plus sockets and the time zone
The evening before your flight is the right moment to fill one folder on your phone. In Uzbekistan the phone orders the taxi, finds the bus, buys the train ticket and brings dinner to your hotel, and several of these apps want a local number before they work properly.
These are the useful apps for Uzbekistan that we in Tashkent open every day, plus the small things travellers usually learn only on arrival: sockets, voltage, the time zone, toilets and tips.
Taxi: Yandex Go and a second app
Yandex Go is the main taxi app in the country. In October 2026 it works in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Nukus, Namangan, Fergana, Andijan and Navoi, and since 2024 in Urgench and Khiva as well. You see the fare before you confirm, and you can pay the driver in cash.
Install a second app too. Uklon works in Tashkent and the cities of the ,Did you know? Legend says Fergana's 'heavenly horses' sweated blood Legend says the horses of Dayuan, as Chinese chronicles called Fergana, sweated blood, and around 102 BC Emperor Wu of Han sent an army to bring some home. The 'blood' was most likely a skin parasite that causes tiny bleeding spots. Read more → WB Taxi in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Namangan, MyTaxi in Tashkent. Prices differ more than you would expect: in mid-October 2026 the same 3-kilometre ride in Tashkent was priced from 15,500 to 28,500 so'm depending on the app. And if one app has a bad day, the other still brings a car.
Keep some so'm for rides: foreign cards do not always link to local apps. Landing in the capital? Taxis, buses and our transfer from the terminal are covered in arriving at Tashkent airport.
Maps and city transport
Google Maps is fine for walking routes in the old towns. Before a trip out of town, download the area for offline use, because mobile internet is slower outside the cities. For addresses, shops and bus routes in Tashkent, locals more often open Yandex Maps or 2GIS.
In Tashkent, the ATTO app tops up the ATTO transport card for the Did you know? Train tickets: the official site and app

Train tickets are sold on the official Uzbekistan Railways site, eticket.uzrailpass.uz, in the Uzrailway tickets app for iPhone and Android, and at station ticket offices. The ticket is issued to your passport, so type its details exactly as they appear in it. The Uzbekistan's high-speed train: Tashkent to Samarkand in about 2 hours 10 minutes, Tashkent to Bukhara in about 4 hours. Tickets are tied to your passport. Timetables, classes and refunds are in trains in Uzbekistan. Rather not deal with it? We book your train or car from Tashkent to the next city.
Food and grocery delivery
Yandex Eats, which also opens inside Yandex Go, and Uzum Tezkor deliver from restaurants and supermarkets in Tashkent and other large cities; Express24 is strongest in Tashkent. Wolt is no longer an option: it stopped working in Uzbekistan on 5 March 2026.
Two practical points. Foreign cards are accepted unevenly, so choose cash on delivery when the app offers it. And sign-up and the courier's call work best with a local number, which a data-only eSIM does not give you. SIM cards and operators: internet and mobile network in Uzbekistan.
Translation
Google Translate and Yandex Translate both handle Uzbek and Russian. Download Russian for offline use: in the cities many people speak it, and menus and signs are often in both Uzbek and Russian. The camera mode reads a menu in seconds. More in languages of Uzbekistan.
Paying by card

Almost every terminal here reads Visa and Mastercard, so in hotels, restaurants, shops and stations you pay with your own card. Bring the plastic card itself. Local payment apps such as Click and Payme work with cards from Uzbek banks, and a trip does not need them. Cash in so'm is for the bazaar, street food and some taxis.
How much cash to carry and where to withdraw it: cards, cash and tipping.
Sockets, voltage and the time zone
Sockets are types C and F, the round two-pin European kind, at 220 V and 50 Hz. Plugs from continental Europe fit as they are; travellers from the UK, the US, Australia or Japan need an adapter. Most phone and laptop chargers are marked 100–240 V and need nothing more than that adapter; a hair dryer made for 110 V needs a converter, so check the label.
All of Uzbekistan is on UTC+5 all year, with no summer time. That is 4 hours ahead of Central Europe in winter and 3 in summer, and 2 hours ahead of Moscow.
Toilets and tips
The easiest toilets to find are in hotels, restaurants, cafés, museums, shopping centres and railway stations, and on long road days we plan the stops at roadside cafés. A pack of tissues and a hand sanitiser in your bag are handy at the bazaar and on the road.
Tipping is up to you: about 10% in a restaurant for good service, unless a service charge, usually 10–15%, is already on the bill. The other basics are in Uzbekistan travel tips, and staying healthy in the heat in safety and health.
