Central Asia
The crossroads of Asia
Central Asia is five countries stitched together by the Silk Road: Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Between them they hold the great caravan cities — Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva — the Pamir and Tien Shan mountains, and some of the emptiest desert and steppe left on the map.
Most first trips focus on Uzbekistan, then add a mountain leg in Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. We build routes across all five.
Countries
- Uzbekistan — our main destination and the heart of the Silk Road: Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva. The natural place to start (7–12 days) — see the best tours in Uzbekistan.

- Kazakhstan — Almaty, the Charyn Canyon, the steppe and Silk Road sites of the south. Part of our 23-day five-country Silk Road tour; as a separate trip — Turkestan from Tashkent.
- Kyrgyzstan — alpine lakes, yurt stays and the nomad culture of the Tien Shan. Part of our 23-day five-country Silk Road tour; as a separate trip — Kyrgyzstan in summer from Tashkent.
