Amirsoy: the mountain resort near Tashkent in winter and summer

Until December 2019 Uzbekistan had no modern ski resort. On the 21st of that month Amirsoy opened 65 km from Tashkent, and it is now where the city goes for snow in January and for cool air in July. You do not need skis to enjoy it: two gondolas run in summer too, all the way to 2,290 m.

This is our guide to things to do at Amirsoy in winter and summer: how the lifts work, which runs to choose, what the resort offers once the snow has gone, how to get there from Tashkent and what to pair it with. For the other lifts in the country read cable cars in Uzbekistan; for a full mountain day with Lake , see our Chimgan and Charvak day trip.

What Amirsoy is and where it lies

The resort covers 900 hectares on the northern slope of Mount Maygashkan, a spur of the in the . On the map it is Bostanliq district, in the Charvak tourist zone, 65 km east of the capital and on the same road as and the reservoir.

It was built as a full resort from day one, not a lift with a café. Since the opening it has been managed by PGI Management, a company from Andorra, and the first accommodation, Le Chalet by Amirsoy, opened with 40 wooden chalets for two to eight guests. A snowmaking system lets the slopes stay open for up to 100–120 days a season.

Two gondolas and the lifts above them

Your visit starts at the lower station by the main road. Amirsoy Express, opened in December 2021, lifts you to the resort in about nine minutes in a ten-seat cabin and spares you 5 km of hairpins. The cabins have no step at the door, so prams roll straight in.

From the resort, Prima carries eight-seat cabins to the summit at 2,290 m. Both gondolas were built by Doppelmayr. In winter skiers also use the Chalet Express chairlift, 686 m long, a 120 m conveyor for beginners and a 90 m lift for the tubing slope.

The gondolas start at 9:00. The time of the last ascent changes with the season, ticket sales close 30 minutes before it, and in strong wind the lifts can stop on the day. We always plan the ride up for the morning. Facts and figures on every gondola in Uzbekistan are in our cable car guide.

Amirsoy in winter: the runs and who they suit

The resort has 15 km of runs and 660 m of vertical. The longest, Papa, is 3,550 m and drops 637 m; Charlie and Bravo are close behind at 3,353 m and 2,869 m. The Oscar lanes are the opposite: long, gentle tracks that lose less than 50 m, made for your first confident turns. Beginners start on their own slope by the ski academy.

The ski season runs from December to March, depending on snow. Most runs are easy and intermediate, so Amirsoy suits families, beginners and holiday skiers. Experts looking for long, steep terrain will find little to test them. Rental and a workshop are on site, so you can arrive without equipment.

Ski passes and walking tickets are sold at the resort, and prices change from season to season. If you want the snow without the planning, our ski weekend in the Tashkent mountains takes you from your hotel to the lifts and back, with a night at the resort and help with passes and rental.

Amirsoy in summer: what to do

Green mountain slopes in summer

From late spring the slopes turn green, and the reason to come is the air. In July the average afternoon in Tashkent reaches 35.9 °C; at Chimgan, in the same mountains, it is 26.2 °C. Here is what the resort offers in the warm months:

  • The gondola ride to 2,290 m and back, with time at the top for photos and a walk.
  • Guided mountain hikes from the resort, booked on site.
  • Yeti rope park: crossings and obstacles 2.5–7 m above the ground, for adults and children, from 8:30 to 16:30.
  • Quad bikes with a guide-instructor, for adults and children, also from 8:30 to 16:30.
  • A heated outdoor pool, the Red Rock hammam and spa, and a traditional Russian banya for the end of the day.

Looking for the zipline? It is not on the resort's list of activities. At Amirsoy itself, the rope park is the closest thing to it.

Where to eat and stay

The resort lists three restaurants: 2290 with international dishes, Sazanchik with national cuisine and Shashleek with traditional Uzbek grills.

Le Chalet by Amirsoy has six types of chalets and suites, from Deluxe for four guests to the Grand Presidential for eight. Each has a fireplace and a terrace, breakfast is included, check-in is from 15:00 and check-out by 12:00. Staying the night gives you two mornings on the snow instead of one.

Amirsoy also works for companies. Our conference and mountains programme puts a conference day in a Tashkent hotel together with a team day and a night at Amirsoy or Beldersay.

Getting there from Tashkent and how much time to plan

Amirsoy is 65 km from Tashkent along the road through Gazalkent. From the city centre we plan about an hour and a half each way; from the airport it is also about 90 minutes. On summer weekends the road is busier, so we leave early.

A car with a driver is the simplest way: the driver waits at the lower station while you are on the mountain. A ride-app taxi works for the way up, but agree on the return with the same driver, as there are few cars in the mountains in the evening. Minibuses go only as far as Gazalkent, and with changes they eat most of the day.

How much time? Half a day at the resort covers both gondolas, an hour at the top and lunch. A ski day is a full day, and with the drive it is a full day from Tashkent. Add the rope park, the pool or a hike and you will be glad of a night at the chalets.

What to combine with Amirsoy: Charvak, Chimgan, Chinorkent

Amirsoy is one stop on a road with several more, and in summer one is rarely enough.

  • Lake Charvak. The reservoir is about 80 km from the centre of Tashkent, a short drive on from the resort. Gondola in the morning, the shore in the afternoon: this is the day we plan most often.
  • Chinorkent. Our easy version of the mountains is in Travel Moments: "Mountains: Amirsoy and Chinorkent, lunch and cable car".
  • Chimgan and Beldersay. Chimgan is about 85 km from Tashkent and the place for hiking. Beldersay, 5 km from it, has a ten-seat gondola, and in July 2026 Beldersoy Resort and Spa opened there.

The full day plan, in summer and in winter, is in our Chimgan and Charvak day trip; the background on each place is in the mountains near Tashkent. If one day is not enough, our Jeep Expedition: High Tashkent spends four days off the asphalt, from Chimgan to the Pskem valley and the Ugam range.

Before you go

  • When to come. For snow, December to March, depending on the winter. For green slopes and walks, from late spring to autumn.
  • Hours. The gondolas open at 9:00. Last ascents depend on the season and the weather, and ticket sales close half an hour before them, so do not arrive late in the afternoon.
  • Clothes. At 2,290 m it is noticeably cooler than in Tashkent, even in July. Bring a warm layer, a hat and sunscreen: at altitude the sun is stronger.
  • Documents. No special permit is needed for Amirsoy; carry your passport, as anywhere in Uzbekistan.
  • Tickets. Ski passes and gondola tickets are sold at the resort; we check current prices for your dates.

In short

  • Amirsoy opened in December 2019, 65 km from Tashkent: plan an hour and a half each way.
  • Two Doppelmayr gondolas take you to 2,290 m, in winter and in summer; ride up in the morning.
  • Winter: 15 km of mostly easy and intermediate runs, good for families and beginners.
  • Summer: gondola, guided hikes, a rope park, quad bikes and a heated pool.
  • Pair it with Lake Charvak or Chinorkent for a day, or stay a night at the chalets.
