Uzbekistan plans 30 new tourism areas by 2030
Uzbekistan wants to give travellers more places to go beyond the classic Silk Road cities. The Tourism Committee plans to develop 30 new tourism areas by 2030, each one to a single master plan.
What a master plan means
Instead of a hotel here and a road there, transport, town planning, hotels, recreation and utilities are designed together from the start. The work is led by the Project Office for Tourism Infrastructure Development, set up under the Committee by a presidential resolution in April 2026. On 1 October the Committee discussed the projects with Arup, the British engineering and design firm founded in 1946, which would like to open an office in Tashkent.
What comes next
The next big meeting point for the industry is the 31st Tashkent International Tourism Fair, “Tourism on the Silk Road”, on 25–27 November 2026, with an investment forum alongside it.
For travellers it means more choice in the coming years. Meanwhile the mountains near Tashkent already make an easy escape from the city: see our guide to Chimgan and other mountain areas or let our tour finder suggest a route.
