Tashkent’s Center of Islamic Civilization presented at UNESCO in Paris
Tashkent’s newest large museum has been introduced to an international audience. On 7 October 2026 UNESCO Headquarters in Paris hosted the conference “Islamic Civilization: the great spiritual and scientific heritage of Mawarannahr and horizons of enlightenment”, with more than 300 scholars, diplomats and representatives of international organisations, universities, museums and libraries.
What was shown
The main event was a presentation of the Center of Islamic Civilization: its concept, its research and museum work and its plans for international cooperation. Three sessions covered the intellectual heritage of Central Asia, the Center as a platform for science and culture, and the contribution of scholars from Mawarannahr, the land between the Amu Darya and the Syr Darya, to world civilization.
What you will see in Tashkent

Under its 65-metre dome are about 15,000 square metres of exhibitions, and the Qur’an Hall keeps the Mushaf of Uthman, listed in UNESCO’s Memory of the World register. How to plan your visit is in our guide to the Center of Islamic Civilization.
