One visa for Central Asia? A common tourist visa is on the table
Travelling across Central Asia on a single visa is back on the agenda. On 8 October 2026 the heads of state of Central Asia, with Azerbaijan taking part, met in the Avaza tourist zone in Turkmenistan, and the President of Kyrgyzstan proposed a common tourist visa for the region.
The idea
The model is “one trip, several countries”: joint routes that link the ancient cities, the mountains, the Caspian coast and the cultural heritage of the six countries. The foreign ministries were asked to work out how a common visa could be introduced. No dates or rules have been announced yet.
What it means today
For now each country keeps its own entry rules. Citizens of many countries can visit Uzbekistan without a visa, and others can apply for an e-visa online, so check the rules for your passport before you book. Many of our guests already combine Uzbekistan with Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan or Tajikistan in one journey.
How we plan such trips is in our guide to Central Asia tours.
