Tashkent’s new airport: room for 20 million passengers a year
Tashkent is getting a new international gateway. The airport will stand in Tashkent region, in the Urtachirchik and Kuyichirchik districts, on 1,310 hectares. On 7 October 2026 the Ministry of Transport discussed its financing with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
What is planned
The first stage brings two 4-kilometre runways and a 208,000 m² passenger terminal for up to 20 million passengers a year; today’s airport handles up to 11 million. Later the terminal can grow to 46 million passengers a year. Toll roads to Samarkand, Andijan and Bostanlyk, a high-speed train station and shuttles to New Tashkent are planned around it.
Who builds it and when
The airport is a public–private partnership: Vision Invest holds 45%, Japan’s Sojitz 30%, Incheon International Airport Corporation 15% and Uzbekistan Airports 10%. The consortium will run the terminal for 35 years. Construction is planned for 2026–2030, and the opening is expected around 2029–2030.
Until then
Flights keep landing at the current airport, which sits inside the city close to the centre. To skip the queues on arrival, book our VIP meeting at Tashkent airport.
