Day-by-day itinerary

Date: Fri. 01.05.25

City: Samarkand

Meet at the airport after the 07:30 flight and transfer to the hotel.

Check-in, breakfast at the hotel, and rest.

We begin the programme with a proper Uzbek plov lunch. In Uzbekistan, plov is traditionally enjoyed before noon, and there is no better place for it than the Plov Center in Samarkand.

Samarkand sightseeing begins with Registan Square, the heart of the city. You will see the three celebrated madrasahs: Ulugh Beg Madrasah, Tilla-Kari Madrasah, and Sher-Dor Madrasah.

Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Siab Bazaar continue the story of Timurid Samarkand and introduce the eastern market atmosphere with spices, hot bread, and local sweets.

Departure to the Meros Paper Factory for a look at the traditional hand-made paper process and a demonstration workshop on ceramic craft and ornamentation.

Dinner is served in the Meros garden pavilion, where the evening includes a folklore concert and an Uzbek dance masterclass.

Transfer to the hotel and overnight.

Morning countryside excursion to Chorchinar Park, a place where nature, legend, and spirituality meet. Walk through the old plane-tree garden, see the spring and sacred pond, and visit the chilakhona hidden inside the tree trunk.

On the way back to Samarkand, stop at a mountain café on the pass to taste local tandyr meat prepared only in this area.

Return to Samarkand.

Short city continuation with visits to the Gur-Emir Mausoleum and the Shah-i-Zinda Complex, the mosaic-covered necropolis of the Timurid era.

Batik workshop in a private Samarkand studio. Guests learn about the history of this craft in Uzbekistan, watch the waxing and dyeing process, and create their own souvenir textile fragment under the guidance of the master.

Workshop duration: 1.5-2 hours. Included: masterclass, materials, finished batik fragment, tea and water.

Route: Samarkand – Bukhara

Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the railway station for the morning train to Bukhara. Arrival, hotel check-in, and start of the city tour.

Bukhara sightseeing introduces one of the oldest cities in the East. The route covers Lyabi-Hauz and Kalon Square, two of the city’s defining landmarks.

During the walk through old Bukhara, continue into the artisan quarter for a blacksmith workshop with a fourth-generation local master. You will watch the charcoal furnace being fired, the forging and tempering process, and can try a few hammer strokes yourself to create a small keepsake.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Continue with the Ark Citadel and the Samanid Mausoleum, one of the most important early Islamic monuments in Central Asia.

Tea break in a traditional teahouse with oriental sweets and fragrant tea.

Transfer to the hotel, free dinner, and overnight.

Morning suburban excursion. Visit the Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa Palace, the summer residence of the last emirs of Bukhara, and Chor-Minor, the charming four-towered madrasa.

Free lunch in Bukhara.

Shopping time in the old trading domes: Toki Sarrafon, Toki Telpakfurushon, and Toki Zargaron for carpets, silk, ceramics, spices, and souvenirs.

Dinner in the guesthouse of Davlat Toshev. While plov is being prepared, guests take part in a Bukhara miniature painting masterclass with paper and paints provided. Finished works can be taken home.

Walk or transfer back to the hotel. Overnight.

Route: Bukhara – Khiva

Breakfast at the hotel.

Early departure from Bukhara to Khiva. The road crosses the Kyzylkum desert and takes around 6-7 hours, about 450 km. Stops can be made along the way for rest and photographs.

The landscapes of steppe and desert evoke the atmosphere of the ancient Silk Road.

Arrival in Khiva, hotel check-in, and time to rest after the drive.

Optional evening walk through the softly lit streets of Ichan-Kala, when the old city feels especially magical.

Overnight in the guesthouse.

Full sightseeing day in Ichan-Kala, Khiva’s UNESCO-protected open-air museum.

With your guide you will see Kalta-Minor Minaret, Muhammad Amin Khan Madrasah, Kunya-Ark Citadel, Juma Mosque with its 218 carved wooden columns, Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum, and Tash-Hauli Palace.

Lunch at a local restaurant featuring Shivit Oshi, the signature Khiva dish with no real equivalent elsewhere in the region.

Optional sunset hour: sunset on an open terrace overlooking Ichan-Kala – 15 US$ per person, including a glass of wine and a snack plate.

Dinner in the guesthouse with a demonstration of Khorezm tandyr bread baking and a hands-on manty or samsa cooking session.

Overnight in the guesthouse.

Route: Khiva – Tashkent

Breakfast at the hotel.

Free morning for rest, photographs, or an additional walk.

Visit a local wood-carving workshop, a signature Khiva craft, with a demonstration and the option to participate.

Drive out for lunch at a local household known for freshly fried fish – a place rarely visited by mainstream tourists.

Return to Khiva for free time to shop, stroll, or climb the Islam Khoja Minaret for panoramic views.

Later transfer to the airport and evening flight to Tashkent.

Meet on arrival in Tashkent and transfer to the hotel.

Route: Tashkent – Chimgan – Tashkent

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today is dedicated to the mountains and the striking natural scenery of the western Tien Shan.

Gulkam Canyon trekking is an active full-day adventure near Chimgan. The route of about 7 km passes through the Sandy Pass, birch groves, and a scenic gorge. Expect ascents and descents, a swim in a mountain river, a picnic near the water, and canyon crossings over the river.

Return to Tashkent, dinner at the hotel, and overnight.

Tashkent city tour begins in the old town with the Khast Imam Complex and the ancient manuscript of the Quran of Osman.

Continue to Independence Square, Amir Temur Square, Kosmonavtlar Metro Station, and the Museum of Applied Arts. The route ends at the colourful Chorsu Bazaar, where you can see and taste local produce.

Lunch at the food row inside Chorsu Bazaar, where local residents come for a quick and flavourful meal.

Optional continuation through Tashkent’s communal courtyards, wartime evacuation stories, city canals, and the web-like lanes of the old mahallas.

Evening visit to Tashkent City for the singing fountain, modern city atmosphere, and free time.

Farewell dinner at Karavan, one of the oldest and most atmospheric restaurants in the city.

Return to the hotel and prepare for departure.
