Departure to Samarkand by car (~ 270 km, 4-5 hours). Arrival and breakfast at a local restaurant.
Start of the Samarkand excursion — The Heart of the Silk Road Registan Square – The main square of Central Asia and an architectural masterpiece of the 15th–17th centuries. You will see the three famous madrasahs — Ulugbek, Sher-Dor and Tillya-Kari, and learn about the development of science, religion and art during the Timurid era. Gur-Emir Mausoleum – The tomb of the great commander Amir Timur (Tamerlane). The monumental dome and exquisite interior make this place one of the most impressive monuments of Samarkand. Bibi-Khanym Mosque – One of the largest architectural projects of its time, built by order of Timur in honor of his wife. Siab Bazaar – An introduction to Oriental atmosphere: spices, dried fruits, flatbreads and local sweets. Opportunity to try Samarkand bread. Lunch at a national restaurant – plov, manti or shashlik (optional). Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis – A unique architectural ensemble of mausoleums with rich mosaics and ceramics — one of the most atmospheric places in the city. Ulugbek Observatory – One of the most important scientific structures of the 15th century, evidence of the high level of astronomy during the Timurid era. Or overnight in Samarkand (hotel is paid and booked additionally). |
